Drawing in the countryside

Location of studio... Morley Farm Barn Studio, Beckley Road, Northiam, Rye, East Sussex, TN31 6JB.

The purpose built studio with floor-space measuring a hundred square metres, is located in the grounds of Morley Farm Barn. The massive studio doors command a panoramic view over a typical East Sussex landscape. The charm of the countryside is enhanced by a variety of flowers in meadow and hedgerow, post and rail fencing and a thatched cottage nestled in the copse at the bottom of the grounds. The studio is north facing with plenty of natural light, a large mezzanine, kitchenette and shower room.

Morley Farm Barn was originally a 17th century hay barn and part of Morley Farm (or Morley Manor) complex originally comprising oast house, farmhouse and farm buildings. It is situated off Beckley Road, near the pretty village of Northiam in East Sussex.

Northiam is steeped in history with its white weather boarded old cottages, fine houses and a parish pump on its village green. St Mary’s Church, Northiam dates from 1090 is home to the pony and hand hearse made for the 1887 jubilee of Queen Victoria. Northiam can cater for most everyday needs with a Jempson’s mini market, a bakery with tea room, an extremely useful hardware store, fish & chip shop, Indian restaurant and a Spar shop (open 7 days a week). Northiam is also the location of Christopher Lloyd’s wonderful garden at Great Dixter and the Kent & East Sussex Steam Railway Rye.

Tenterden and Hastings are all within easy driving distance. The picturesque and medieval town of Rye has a train station which offers services to Ashford International with an average journey time of 22 minutes.
